How do you handle the leveling for characters in Critical Role?

@LikeNightandDrehow do you handle the leveling for characters in Critical Role? Is it a fully involved, XP keeping system, or more RP based? Its an XP system (for combat and RP), but may switch to milestone-based leveling in my next campaign
