Artificer spells known per day, & spell list more limited than previous editions. Intentional?

@mikemearlsArtificer spells known, p/ day, & spell list more limited than previous editions. Intentional? Used to be very versatile also why some spells left out of list? e.g Knock, Elemental Weapon, Mage Armor all fit class theme, & no Repair Damage
